Samantha Brickman

Position: Assistant Headteacher

Sammy has aspired to be a primary school teacher from the age of five and has achieved her National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). She has been teaching since 2011 and has taught across all three key stages; in her previous school, Sammy was the Early Years Foundation Stage Leader. Sammy joined Alma in 2016 as an Assistant Headteacher and spent four years as the staff governor. She has had a wide range experience working with children and families with a variety of needs and in 2017-2018, was also the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator at Alma.

Before studying Primary Education at university, Sammy lived in Israel for a year, where she taught English to disadvantaged children and young people and volunteered as a First Aider for Magen David Adom. Sammy also spent a year living and teaching in Australia. Sammy is passionate about travelling and volunteering and in addition to her work within youth movements and organisations, spent a summer volunteering at an orphanage in Ghana, where she helped to rebuild their home and school and fundraise for the children.

Sammy volunteers as a Childline counsellor and is passionate about raising awareness of and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. At Alma, she is the PSHE & Wellbeing lead, a Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mental Health First Aider and mentor for trainee and newly qualified teachers. Sammy has loved being a part of a growing school and can't quite believe that we are old enough now to have our former students coming back to Alma to help out! Sammy is now on maternity leave.
